#33 Rihanna, "Disturbia"

I - feel - like - a - monster

This just might be my favorite Rihanna single to hear on the radio, and given how many songs of her I've loved--I've liked her since "Pon De Replay" and "If It's Lovin' That You Want"--that's saying something. As if it wasn't enough that "Disturbia" is slightly creepy Euro pop--well, more pop influenced by creepiness, since there's nothing unsettling about "Disturbia" itself--par excellence, Rihanna hit it out of the park with the styling in the video. Thank goodness for Rihanna, one of the most exciting popstars the world has going today. Co-writers Chris Brown and André Merritt (who also did "Forever" as well as most of the great Chris demos that have leaked) made a good call in deciding that "Disturbia," from the writing sessions for Chris's own album, would better suit a female voice--and in particular Rihanna's unique voice--but should you be like me and have a fascination with demos, even when they're not as good as the final version, you may be interested in the André-sung original demo of the track.
